I'll be honest, I HATE getting out of the shower, feeling nice and refreshed as I am getting dressed, and then 10 minutes later my skin is dried-out and I am scratching allover my itchy body. So what is causing this dried-out, itchy skin? My bar of soap you say? But the box says that it doesn't dry-out your skin!

So really, what is soap? Here is an excerpt from a Soapourri blog post : "To explain, let me tell you about how true soap is made. You take 3 things: lye, water and oils/fats and mix them together. The lye reacts with the water and the oil and makes soap. The finished product has no lye in it, however, it is just a catalyst. The finished product also contains lots of glycerin, and is a "whole" product. Kind of like whole wheat.

Glycerin is a very valuable product, a humectant, which means that it is emollient to the skin. However, it is also valuable in many other industries. That is why large commercial soapmakers remove the glycerin from the soap and sell it. Shocking, isn't it? This results in an "unbalanced" product that dries out your skin."
