Today is July 14, and today's contest is sponsored by Signature In The Cell, by Dr. Stephen C. Meyer. [5] FIVE lucky winners will receive a copy of Dr. Stephen C. Meyer's book, Signature In The Cell: DNA and the Evidence for Intelligent Design.

Unlike previous arguments for intelligent design, Signature in the Cell presents a radical and comprehensive new case, revealing the evidence not merely of individual features of biological complexity but rather of a fundamental constituent of the universe: information. That evidence has been mounting exponentially in recent years, known to scientists in specialized fields but largely hidden from public view. A Cambridge University-trained theorist and researcher, director of the Discovery Institute’s Center for Science and Culture, Dr. Meyer is the first to bring the relevant data together into a powerful demonstration of the intelligence that stands outside nature and directs the path life has taken.

Stephen C. Meyer is director of the Discovery Institute’s Center for Science and Culture (CSC) and a founder both of the intelligent design movement and of the CSC, intelligent design’s primary intellectual and scientific headquarters. Dr. Meyer is a Cambridge University-trained philosopher of science, the author of peer-reviewed publications in technical, scientific, philosophical and other books and journals. His signal contribution to ID theory is given most fully in Signature in the Cell: DNA and the Evidence for Intelligent Design, published by HarperOne in June 2009.

"The chance that a world such as ours should occur without intelligent design becomes more and more remote as we learn of its wonders" Arthur Compton

I work in a Community College Library, and the only book in about 2 complete 8 ft high shelves similar to this one is Darwinism, Design, and Public Education, which is a great one, but this ratio itself demonstrates the historical bias in place. If I win, I will donate a copy to this Library for the younger generation's eyes to be opened. Thank you Stephen Meyer & the Discovery Institute.

A positive !!! to the ID debate. We are grateful for the work that is evident in this work.

I've wanted to read Signature in the Cell ever since it was published! I've heard Stephen Meyer speak, and am intrigued by the argument he makes about genetic information requiring intelligent design. Hope you pick me!

    I HOPE I WIN!!! I HOPE I WIN!!!!!!!

I own a hardbound copy and read it until I practically memorized it. So, if I win, I'll give the book to someone who promises to read it.

Hey Francisco.....don't bother asking for my spare copy.

When can we expect the audiobook read by Mr. Meyer himself? I'll buy that too!

This book appears to be a must read for anyone who is intelligent. I plan to share the book with many friends.

I think this book looks promising for my colleagues and I to read for our ongoing breakfast book-discussion group. We're currently working through "The End of Christianity".
  • HA! That's funny! : )

I'd like to read "Signature in the Cell". I've been reading on this topic for 40 years, and I think it may be a real contribution.
  • I grew up hearing the [so-called] "scientific" reasons for such anatomical features like the giraffe's long neck having allowed it to survive times of famine (famines which modern short-necked creatures somehow mysteriously managed to survive). ID shows the true question that they should ask and cannot answer: how the complicated DNA and associated biological machinery that programs the development of that amazingly structured long could have evolved through the mechanism of such moronic causes as the mindless accidents of natural history. God bless the intelligent design movement!
  • chris
    love this topic

I have been an ID proponent for years and love to share with those who are interested in the subject as well as willing to debate those who wish to do so respectfully.
  • Sambacon79
I heard Dr. Meyer speak at a conference on Science and Faith. He talked about the content of his book. I'd like to win to get a free copy.
  • Did I get the free book :), A must read, hence I must get.
ID and Evo the science battle of a lifetime, loving it, truth is truth always.
  • Joseph Fischer
I look forward to reading this wonderful book. So far, the scientific establishment has ignored the question of where the highly advanced information encoded in DNA came from
  • Stevenewxxx
Dr. Meyer takes us along on his journey of discovery showing that his conclusions, did not come to him preformed. He proceeds with an intellectually honest discussion of his premises and proceeds to take us on a journey through the history of scientific thought helping us to see how we have arrived where we are now. Although I am only through about a third of the book I look forward to completing it. Unfortunately I have to return it to the library in a few days.
  • I'd love to be able to add Signature in the Cell to the other works on Intelligent Design in my bookcase: The Privileged Planet and A Meaningful World.

If you're interested in this subject I highly recommend both these books.
  • Susan L
I would love to read this book by World magazine's Daniel of the Year, Stephen Meyer. I have admired his work for a long time.
  • dananance
This is a scary yet fascinating topic and I'd love to read this book.
  • Kellbob
Very sound reasoning employed by Dr. Meyer. Always a good read. I look forward to reading his latest

    Hope I win...

If God has given us enough evidence then why am I still and agnostic. It seems to me that those that believe in God have as many moves as a bucket of worms in answering objections. If this God requires action on our behalf then the evidence should be comensurate with what is required. I am not convinces that the evidence in so compelling. The same evidence used by believers is used by athiests and it seems to me at this time in my life that the interpretation of the evidence is tainted by each others world view. If God is to judge me then I plead with Him to help.
  • If you truly mean that, He will show you too! I'm a very strong believer in God, Creation & the Bible; and I've been studying it (the Bible) along with all the undeniable facts that back it up for many years now. There are literally thousands upon thousands of facts that back up God and the Bible. The simple fact of the matter is that ANYONE who does a serious, objective study of the Bible in comparison with actual world history, scientific discovery, archeological discovery, biological discovery, and even medical science, will come to the overwhelming realization that not only is there a God who created us, but that the Bible is true too! I'd recommend starting any study with Lee Strobel in "The Case For A Creator" as he really goes through the litany of various facts in all the different areas of the sciences; and does the same with many of his other scientifically based books or DVDs. He started out a strick atheist himself until his own wife became a Christian and he saw first-hand the amazing change that came over her life. This made him want to figure out what the heck was going on and he spent years in the role of his job, which is a reporter, digging into what the truth really is. His books and movies delve deep into the history and all of the science of everything you'll hear from Christians who are well informed, and will most likely teach you much that your probably not currently aware of in the process. I know I learned alot from his books and DVDs in the areas that I had never studied before! And now, to top it all off, Stephen Meyer has just put the final nail in the coffin of the myth of evolution as far as I, and many others are concerned. But that's not all there is! There's MUCH more proof out there! If you really want the truth, you'll find it. God has made it very easy for people these days to know that He IS! And once you know all the facts, or even just alot of them, it's almost impossible to believe that He isn't Who the Bible says He is. From there, common sense alone dictates to you that He is, in fact, there and created us and everything we see! : )
  • Reed Merino
Distrust of your Creator and His revelation is not the result of lack of empirical evidence. Following your hunger for goodness, love and purity and your hatred of evil is more relevant to your quest than the hunger in your mind for truth.
  • yashi2
This sounds interesting! I would like to learn more! Thanks!
  • Sirrahc
I'm impressed with Dr. Meyer and have learned a lot and enjoyed everything I've read or heard from him. He is truly a major asset to the ID movement. I look forward to being able to dive into this latest, sure-to-be seminal work of his.

    Good luck, everyone!

excited at the chance to win this book
  • This is one of the best books on intelligent design. Meyer gives the background of the DNA information and how it contributes to the debate. Written in clear language so it can be understood by, but not a Mickey Mouse book by any means. Thoughtful with a well developed argument this book should be read by any one who questions the current evolution debate.
