Soda-Club's drink makers are a spectacular invention that I'm sure many of you have never heard of. Not only is it a huge money saver if you drink soda, it is environmentally friendly and it helps to reduce packaging and save energy. According to Soda-Club, Americans drink more than 55 billion liters of soda and seltzer each year. That's almost 200 liters — about 600 cans! — for every adult and child in the United States. And, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, that adds 10 1/2 cubic feet of packaging per American — over 3 billion cubic feet! — in our landfills and recycling facilities every year. The Sodastream units change this problem because there are no bottles or cans to recycle or throw away (one Sodastream bottle lasts for three years), and the highly concentrated sodamix minimizes packaging.

I had the opportunity to test out the Sodastream Fountain Jet and my first impression is: GENIUS IDEA. A machine that runs on no batteries and no electricity; a machine that allows you to make over 33 different flavored sodas; a machine that reduces the pollution of bottles and cans; a machine that saves you thousands of dollars a year on soda purchases; once again, GENIUS.

The setup of the fountain jet is very simple and all it requires is the insertion of the carbonated tank to get going. Once the tank is inserted, you fill up the provided bottle with water and then twist it into the machine. Press down a few times to your desired level of carbonation and voila!, you have carbonated water. Next, take any of the provided drink flavors and pour in the required amount to get a flavored soda. I tested out the cola flavor and I have no complaints; it tasted similar to Pepsi. One bottle of flavored syrup will make the equivalent of 33 cans soda so a TON of packaging is saved with this machine. You will probably NEVER find these in the grocery stores because they will definitely hurt the market, but they are available online so you can pick one up at Sodastream. If you drink soda, I highly recommend you get one of these because it saves the environment, and most of all, it saves you money.
