Today is March 1, and today's sponsor is Chef's Resource. [1] ONE winner will receive a 6 1/2" Scalloped Japanese Santoku Knife - KAI 3000 ST Series and a cutting board.
Chef's Resource carries all the tools that a serious home chef may need. I'm talking about serious tools for serious chefs! Since 1999, the Chef's Resource has offered the best quality, hand-picked items and some of their favorites include: All Clad, Calphalon, Le Creuset, Screwpull, Shun Knives, Global Knives, Wusthof Knives and more.
Now Chef's Resource carries a ton of kitchen knives, but the KAI line of knives is specially brought in from the Japanese market because Chef's Resource liked the knives that much. Keep in mind that Japanese knives tend to be pretty sharp and usually a bit thinner and lighter than a typical German forged knife. The KAI 3000 ST Series is a nice knife and it looks great in person.
6 1/2" Scalloped Santoku Knife - KAI 3000 ST Series
The Santoku knife shape is one of the best known exports from Japan and is very popular in America. This model of the KAI 5000ST has a scalloped blade (also known as hollow edge or granton edge) which creates air pockets while slicing, causing food to stick less. This KAI 5000ST Santoku knife with a 6 1/2" blade is a good medium-sized knife best suited for chopping tasks in the kitchen. You'll make quick work of carrots, potatoes, onions and other vegetables with a Japanese Santoku knife. This is also available in a version with a standard blade for those who prefer it.
The KAI 3000 series of Japanese knives is a mid-range series in the Sekimagoroku line, a nice balance of value, quality and performance. The tang extends all the way to the butt on the blade-spine side give the 3000 ST series knives excellent blade/handle balance. The welded stainless steel bolster strengthens the knife and keeps your fingers from slipping while working. The high-carbon Vanadium/Molybdenum stainless steel give the knives a sharp cutting blade and good edge retention. The laminated wood handles are attractive, water resistant and comfortable to use.
The ST designation in the KAI knife series indicates Stainless. Stainless resists rust, can be cleaned easily and gives knives an excellent edge.
KAI Japan is a 100 year old company, a very large knife maker in Japan and is the company that makes Shun knives. KAI also make these Seki Mago Roku knives for the Japanese market in the tradition of Japanese sword makers. Seki has a long, rich tradition of sword making due to it's "terroir", a combination of outstanding soil, water and charcoal for carbon and corbomite that have helped create swords vastly superior to the rest of the world for many centuries. The master sword makers' principals of "Sharp Edge, Strength and Durability" have been maintained by these knives. Chef's Resource is bringing in these wonderful KAI Seki Mago Roku knives direct from Japan to enjoy in the United States.
Sekimagoroku series knives use an original 3-step grinding process to reduce the friction between the blade and the ingredients. The ST series is short for Stainless, the CL series has Clad knives, while the higher the numeric portion of the series, the higher the quality. Made in Japan. 165mm blade.
